March DC Report

March 2014

Dear Members,

We look forward to more pleasant riding conditions at our March rally.  Well done to the many riders who braved the heat at our Feb rally. The earlier start worked well and allowed us to enjoy a couple of sessions ahead of the hottest part of the day.

There are lots of events on at the moment and it is great to see riders out and about competing and supporting each other.  On Sunday, we had 5 riders competing at Seville Horse trials and a couple more riders who came along just to support those competing.  Good on you Jazzy and Georgia for cheering along your mates!

State Dressage and Showjumping Championships

We wish Abbey Turnbull and Kim Apted all the best at the State Dressage and Showjumping championships this weekend.  Both riders are part of the North Metro Zone team with Abbey competing in the Grade 1 dressage competition and Kim in the C grade showjumping competition.  It is a fantastic achievement to represent our Zone at State level and we hope the girls enjoy a fantastic weekend in Bendigo.  Our talented Brittany Salthouse also qualified for this event and was part of the B grade showjumping team, but unfortunately, a recent nasty injury requiring surgery, has rendered Britt unable to compete.  We all wish Britt a super speedy recovery and look forward to her return.

Junior Star!

A very big congratulations to Georgia Bissicks, one of our star junior riders who has been selected to join the State Games Development Squad.  Georgia and her pony Rainbow have been one of the keenest and biggest supporters of our YHPC games team, so it is fantastic to see her hard work rewarded with a place in the highly sought after games squad.   Go Georgia!

40th Birthday Celebrations

Could all riders please ensure that they are dressed in the correct YHPC uniform on Sunday (polo top please), as we are going to have a group photograph taken as part of the club’s 40th Birthday celebrations.  Please be around the clubrooms at 12.30pm on Sunday for the photo shoot!

On the subject of birthday celebrations, in addition to the cocktail function being held on the 29th March (18+), planning is also underway for a celebration involving all of our riders, so stay posted for further details or perhaps come to the Junior Committee meeting being held after the rally on Sunday and voice your ideas. It has been some time since we have had a Junior Committee meeting, but there has been interest expressed in re starting this group, so all riders are welcome, details below.

PCAV Certificates

I have reposted information below regarding certificates.  We hope to start certificate work at our April rally, so this is a final call to all riders who are at least 12 years of age and have not yet achieved their D or C certificates to contact me via email or in person at the rally on Sunday.

All members are encouraged to complete PCAV Efficiency tests as they progress through pony club.  Whilst completion of these certificates is not compulsory, completion of the C certificate is required before you can participate in competitions at state level if you are at least 14 years old and have been at pony club for at least 2 years.

Horse Trials – Rule Changes for State Qualifiers and Interzones

A reminder that there are rule changes for those wishing to qualify for the State Horse Trials or Interzone Teams Horse Trials.  These changes were detailed in my February DC report and are now published in the 2014 Horse Trials Rules Book. Please remember that all riders who qualify at an event must now get their card signed by a Zone rep at the event.

Grade 3 and 4 riders who wish to compete in the Interzones are strongly encouraged to consider competing at either the individual horse trials at Yeringberg (4th & 5th April) or the teams horse trials at Yeringberg (18th May).  Results from these competitions are part of the criteria considered by Zone when selecting teams.

Ring to Ride Groups

A reminder to all riders in the Black, White and Grey groups that you are required to advise your preferences to me by 5.00pm on Friday-please make the effort to send a text or email, even if you are not attending, as it makes planning a whole lot easier.
