DC Report April

Hi Members,

So the weather tried hard to spoil our first twilight rally, but the bucketing rain and stormy conditions did not deter the many determined and brave riders that rode on Friday night. Lots of work went into organising this rally and just when we thought our efforts were in vain, floats began to mill in the driveway. Coordinating and running this rally took a lot of effort and it would be remiss of me not to mention a few, so here goes…

Thank you to:

The XC set up crew who spent Wednesday afternoon setting up and Friday afternoon fixing up what the weather had destroyed – Britt & Caro Salthouse, Ciara and John (my Dad).IMG_8448

Tony Brocksopp and his rally set up/pack up crew who took time off work to ensure that the rally was ready by 4.00pm Friday.

My set up crew on Friday who spent the afternoon preparing for the rally (score sheets, time sheets, judges folders, easter eggs, craft activities and much more) -Gen Brocksopp, Bec, Ciara & Micaela Hanlon

Jo and Lily Dobson- setting up the show jump wings in pouring rain on Friday afternoon.  Our Showjump Crew for persisting in the bucketing rain -Pearce family, Maddie Ray, Turnbull family & Emily O’Brien. The Dressage Crew for their patience (working in the dark) and encouraging comments -Linda & Beth Houghton. The XC Crew for their perseverance and positive assistance to the many riders that needed encouragement to brave the slightly slippery course.  This type of practise will place them in very good stead when faced with similar conditions at a competition – Molly &Tony Brocksopp, Jo & Lily Dobson. The gutsy riders who braved the unfriendly weather and to their very wet family & friends that supported them. Our unmounted riders who weren’t so keen on getting saturated, but came along to the rally anyway. Your support was most appreciated.IMG_8373

Lots of senior riders busily eventing as they gain qualification for the State Horse Trials. Nice to see some of our brand new members out and about in YHPC colours already and how good were the  YHPC riders taking out 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and 5th place in the Smartest on Parade at Broadford show!

We STILL want your pics!!

We love to hear all about your outings and we would love to gather lots of pics, so don’t forget to email your photos to Ciara at yhpcwebsiteeditor@gmail.com.  The quality of photos from facebook is often not good enough to use and Ciara is keen to update the photo board at the club rooms, so send those photos in!

New Rules – Some big changes!

For example, Grade 4 and 5 riders are no longer allowed to wear a XC watch in horse trial events and from the 1st July ALL riders must have attained their D Certificate to compete in Horse Trials (refer below for further information on Certificates).

North Metro Zone Team Horse Trials Event

ATTENTION ALL YHPC GRADE 2, 3 AND 4 PONY CLUB RIDERS:

The North Metro Zone Team Horse Trials event will be held on Sunday 15th May at Yeringberg, which is a beautiful property located approximately 15 minutes out of Yarra Glen.

Teams can consist of 3 or 4 riders, but must include a grade 2 and grade 3 rider and 1 or 2 grade 4 riders.  This is a really fun day in a great team environment, so please consider joining a team.  In 2014 we had 5 teams participate in this event and we are hoping for similar numbers this year.

Please remember that if you are hoping to represent our zone in the Grade 3/4 State Zone Teams Challenge held in July, participation in this event is highly regarded.

Entries for this event are submitted by the club.  If you wish to register interest in competing at this event please email me at sineads5@bigpond.net.au by 30th April 2016.

Grade 1 & 2 State Horse Trials – Entries closing very soon

We are very pleased to have at least 5 of our riders already qualified to compete in the upcoming State Horse Trials. Congratulations to Annalise Turner, Brittany Salthouse, Ciara Hanlon, Eloise Barton and Kim Apted, who will represent our club at this event in May.11694146_10206185086248641_3862495896059437645_n

If there are any other Grade 1 and 2 riders wishing to compete in the State Horse Trials, you need to get your entries authorized and submitted by the 6th April. Riders must have qualified in accordance with PCAV regulations, including relevant zone authorisations.

 The Yarrambat Games

 PCAV Certificates

As mentioned previously, from 1st July ALL riders must be at least 8 years old AND have their D Certificate if they wish to compete in horse trials events. This will impact upon a number of our riders who joined the club as teenagers and have not yet achieved their D Certificate. A D certificate group will commence at our April rally, so please take note of the rally plan and if you wish to complete your D Certificate, please join this group. An introductory session (unmounted) will be held in the first session on Sunday.

We also have a significant number of riders who are now ready to commence studying for their C Certificate and we will commence C Certificate work at our June rally. Further details will be sent via email.

A reminder that all riders aged 14 years and over MUST have achieved their C Certificate if they wish to compete in any event at STATE level, including games.

Rally Plan

This month we introduce the sport of working equitation. Something different for our riders to try, working equitation is a 3 phase discipline designed to test horse and rider through a range of activities combining flat work and obstacle tests. This is already a well recognized sport overseas and is gaining a lot of interest and momentum in Australia. The course will be set up in the junior yard area on Sunday.

With school holidays, a competition at Yeringberg, we are expecting smaller attendance numbers on Sunday. Some groups have been merged to accommodate the reduced numbers, so please take note of the rally plan.

 Housekeeping….

Car Parking

With our increasing membership, the car park is becoming very busy and we ask that drivers try and park more cautiously, allowing as many members as possible to fit into our designated parking area. Please do not leave a huge gap between rows 1 and 2 of the car park.

Ring to Ride Groups

A reminder to all riders in the Black, White and Grey groups that you are required to advise your preferences to me by 5.00pm on Friday-please make the effort to send a text or email, even if you are not attending, as it makes planning a whole lot easier. Text your preferences to 0425 759 565 or email me.

Looking forward to a great day on Sunday
